Florida State baseball has the hottest hitter in the country in the heart of their lineup. Matheu Nelson leads the national with 18 home runs, 0.55 HR per game, 53 RBI, 1.61 RBI per game. Nelson is second in the country with a .868 slugging percentage and is sixth with 105 total bases. A massive weekend in Atlanta has netted the best catcher in the country with the ACC Player of the Week award.

This weekend, Nelson was on a tear against Georgia Tech. The catcher was 5-10 at the plate. All five of his hits went for extra bases. He had one homer in each game and has homered in seven of the last 8 ACC games. Nelson drove in five runners on three homers and two doubles. The redshirt sophomore scored four times and drew three walks. Nelson threw out the only attempted base-stealer vs. Georgia Tech.

On Saturday, he broke the FSU record for most home runs in a season in the new-bat era. It was just his 33rd game of the season. The next day, the Largo native became the second fastest Seminole to reach 18 home runs in a season.
