Where will the ‘Noles stand after fifth straight series win?

Ross Obley/FSU sports information

Florida State baseball (28-19, 19-14 ACC) went 3-2 this past week. The Seminoles picked up their fifth straight series victory with a comeback win over Clemson in the rubber match on Sunday. The ‘Noles have won eight of 11 ACC series this year and 10 of 13 total series.

Despite taking a series over a quadrant one Clemson team and splitting a series with a high quadrant two FGCU team, the Seminoles still saw a fall in the RPI this week. The ‘Noles dropped two spots after the midweek split with the Eagles and fell nine spots to #48 after the series win over the Tigers.

On the positive side, Florida State saw a leap in the conference standings. Notre Dame has already wrapped up the Atlantic Division regular season title, but FSU is now second in the Atlantic and is tied for the second best record in ACC play. As of now, the ‘Noles would be the #3 seed entering the ACC Tournament.

Last week, the Seminoles became a consensus top-20 team, being ranked as high as #10 by Perfect Game. Despite the top 20 rankings, FSU was not among the 20 predetermined sites for regionals. We’ll update this article with Florida State’s rankings in the polls when they become available.

UPDATE, 9:00 AM:

FSU has moved up one spot in both D1Baseball and Baseball America’s polls. The ‘Noles now rank 16th in D1Baseball and 12th by Baseball America.

UPDATE, 11:00 AM:

The Seminoles have also moved up a spot in Perfect Game’s top 25. PG now rates the ‘Noles the ninth best team in the country.

UPDATE, 8:00 PM:

FSU is now top 16 in all five major polls. The ‘Noles moved up one spot in NCBWA’s poll to #16. Florida State also moved up three spots to #16 in the Coaches poll.
