On Wednesday night, the San Antonio Spurs selected wing Devin Vassell 11th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. A two-year letterman out of Suwanee, Georgia, Vassell turned pro after an excellent sophomore season.
At Florida State, Vassell emerged as a great piece off the bench for head coach Leonard Hamilton in his freshman season in 2018-2019. He drilled four threes, including the game tying basket with a few seconds left in regulation, in an ACC Tournament semifinal win versus Virginia Tech in 2019.
One of the most improved players in the country as a sophomore, Vassell led the Noles with 12.7 points per-game and 5.1 rebounds per-game. A career 41-percent shooter from beyond the arc, Vassell scored in double figures in 25 of 31 games last season. His career high also came against the Hokies, when he shot a perfect 7-of-7 from three-point range and poured in 27 points in February.
Second-Team All-ACC in 2020, Vassell was also a two-time ACC Player of the Week, the 2019 Emerald Coast Classic Most Outstanding Performer, and a 2-time ACC All-Academic Honor Roll member.
