Five-star forward Dariq Whitehead has taken his official visit to Florida State.
Whitehead currently attends national powerhouse Montverde Academy staring in some of high schools top rosters in recent history featuring Cade Cunningham, Scottie Barnes, Caleb Houston, Jalen Duren and Moses Moody.
Former Florida State star Scottie Barnes will likely play an integral role in the recruiting process since the two were teammates at Montverde.
Class of 2021 guard Jalen Warley also played with Whitehead in one of EYBL’s top programs, Team Durant. The two were spotted with head coach Leonard Hamilton and assistant coach Steve Smith at FSU’s practice facility on June 14th.
The New Jersey native led Montverde to their fifth national title in program history last season. The Eagles hold an unbelievable 69-4 record in Whiteheads three year tenure with the team.
Whitehead is listed as the No. 5 prospect in the class of 2022 (247 Composite) standing at 6’6 with the ability to play both guard and forward.
His freakish athleticism paired with his polished jump shot makes him a difficult task on the defensive end at any level. He has tremendous potential to be a go to scorer as well as guard the oppositions best player with a high basketball IQ and pure instincts that are rare for an athlete that young.
Florida State had two lottery picks in the 2020 NBA draft in Patrick Williams and Devin Vassell, with hopes of securing yet another top 14 pick with Barnes this year.
The #NewBlood movement that Hamilton created has become one of college basketball’s biggest trends in recent years as they continue to compete with the likes of Duke and North Carolina in the recruiting realm.
Whitehead is now the second recruit to take his official visit to Tallahassee following the visit from five-star point guard Jazian Gortman.
FSU will likely host Whitehead sometime again before the season tips off along with five-star Jaden Bradley and four-stars Dillon Mitchell and Eric Dailey.
Many believe that the race for one of 2022’s most intriguing prospects will be headlined by Florida State and Duke University.
