The Florida State Seminoles have been riding a wave of positive momentum on the recruiting trail lately, but the good vibes seem to have hit a speed bump.
Tribe ‘22 has seemingly lost a member, with consensus 4-star quarterback Nicco Marchiol being unlisted as an FSU commitment on both major recruiting ranking services, Rivals and 247Sports.
The Arizona athlete was an active member of the Seminoles’ recruiting class, organizing a spring game meetup with recruits who were in attendance as well as advocating hard for commitments from prospects. He was active in engaging with pro-FSU content as recently as last week, though has since removed all content related to his commitment from all his social networks.
He chose to take an official visit to Arizona State over attending Florida State’s recent Midnight Madness event, a move that reportedly hasn’t sat well with the Seminoles coaching staff.
Marchiol is a 6’2”, 216 pound pro-style quarterback from Chandler, AZ and has a 90 rating from the 247 Sports Composite List. The sites consider him the 291st best player in the 2022 class (23rd best QB and 5th best player in Arizona).
Marchiol originally committed to Florida State on January 31 over offers from the Florida Gators, Arizona State Sun Devils, and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Michigan State Spartans and West Virginia Mountaineers have also recently entered the race for his services.
The Seminoles still have an alpha dog in QB AJ Duffy, so it can be assumed Marchiol likely saw the writing on the wall and decided to seek a different situation that is more favorable to him becoming a starter. The coaching staff has been upfront with all quarterback targets that they would likely be taking two QBs in the 2022 class, whether through prep ranks or through the transfer portal. Mike Norvell and Kenny Dillingham will now turn their attention to other QB targets, perhaps targeting prospects with a different skill set that complements Duffy’s strengths.
