Defensive tackle Daniel Lyons commits to Florida State

Another South Florida prospect is heading to Tallahassee.

The Florida State Seminoles have secured another commitment for their 2022 football recruiting class, adding a defensive tackle who’s long been coveted by the ‘Noles.

Daniel Lyons is a 6’4”, 270 lb defensive tackle who currently plays for Homestead High School. He is ranked by 247 Sports Composite as the 453rd best player in the country, including the 67th best defensive lineman and 61st best player in Florida. He chose the Seminoles over nearly 30 other offers, including the Florida Gators, Miami (Fl) Hurricanes, and the Ole Miss Rebels.

Lyons has been a priority for assistant coach Odell Haggins since being offered on April 24, 2020 and had visited FSU several times, often alongside teammate and friend DE Dante Anderson. This trip was all about Lyons though, as he brought along numerous family members to be present when he pulled the trigger for the garnet and gold.

I said this about Lyons in the Florida State of Recruiting DT piece back in May:

Lyons was a Miami Herald 8A-6A All-Dade first-team selection in 2020, totaling 33 tackles (10 tackles for loss), 5 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles in only six games for a 7A state playoff team. He shows good power and once he gets into the backfield, the running back is toast. While not an immediate contributor, Lyons projects as a multi-year solid contributor at the minimum after a year or two in the strength program. Lyons is teammates with Tribe ‘22 DE target Dante Anderson, and the ‘Noles have clearly prioritized both prospects. Lyons was among the visitors at the spring game and often speaks highly of FSU. It is extremely likely that FSU will land an official visit from him and I feel this will be an in-state battle for both him and Anderson.

With Lyons now officially on board, the 2022 Florida State recruiting class ranks 7th nationally and 1st in the ACC. As always, head on over to the Recruiting Thread for more insight and recruiting discussion. You can also join the TN Discord for free for more interaction with TN staff.
