Football

Florida State football is just 5 days away from returning with a massive game at Doak Campbell Stadium. The Noles getting ready to host No. 9 Notre Dame in primetime for what will be the FSU program’s first-ever Sunday game.

That one-day delay not changing the game week timeline in Tallahassee as Mike Norvell’s staff released their first depth chart of the season. Perry got the full list posted for you online in the link below.

I’m sure the first thing your eyes went to is the QB line. It’s the biggest unknown at this point and it’ll remain that way — at least for now.

Norvell opting to keep that decision under wraps a little longer as Jordan Travis and McKenzie Milton are listed as co-starters thanks to the word “OR” placed between them. That conjunction likely to keep Notre Dame, and many of us, guessing who will take the first snap.

That’s not the only undecided position as the starting nose tackle, cornerback, snapper and kick returner are all listed with an “OR” as well.

One of the other names to pay attention to on that depth chart is freshman defensive tackle Joshua Farmer. It’s unclear how much playing time the young lineman may see in his first year in Tallahassee as he’s listed third on the initial depth chart, but just being on the roster is the realization of dream years in the making.

Notre Dame also released its depth chart today as well and this takeaway from our friends at One Foot Down is something to pay attention to heading into the game.

True freshman left tackle on the road in an environment like Doak for his first game is certainly something to watch come game time. You can see the Irish’s full depth chart on their website with more takeaways and players to keep an eye on as well.

Despite that, the Irish do open game week as a 7.5 point favorite in Tallahassee in this week’s game notes. No pick from me now. I’ll save that for my Friday afternoon betting article.

One note not in the notes is Florida State is actually tied for the longest active winning streak in the ACC with three other schools. Of course, that streak is only one game. But when you start at zero and you get one, you’re growing fast.

The Florida State season will likely carry tributes to the late Bobby Bowden as the Seminoles honor and remember the icon after he passed away earlier this month. Samford University, where Bobby played, started his coaching career as an assistant and later returned to be the head coach, will be doing the same with a decal on their helmets this year.
