Florida State continues to make inroads in Louisiana on the recruiting trail; Coach Johnson’s connections down there are paying dividends as high three-star defensive end Byron Turner has committed to Florida State. The 6’4 237lb DE out of St. Augustine High School by way of New Orleans, LA ranks 394th nationally in 247’s Composite Rankings, 27th at his position, and 13th within the state of Louisiana just outside of blue-chip status. Turner chose FSU over offers from Florida, Baylor, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.
He was recently interviewed by Tomahawk Nation where he was more than excited about Florida State because him and his father grew up big FSU fans; his favorite memory of FSU is the 29-game winning streak from 2012 to 2015. Turner is a big, long defensive end with heavy hands and is already adept at turning the corner to get to the quarterback instead of being washed out of making a play.
Turner becomes the 14th commitment for Mike Norvell’s first full class which now ranks 21st in the country overall and fifth in the ACC.

Love this addition- wouldn't be surprised to see him finish a 4 star
YAC strikes again!

St. Augustine is the high school YAC used to coach at, right?

Yes it is.

Recent Past Comp?
Looks like he’d fill out a little more and end up at WDE as opposed to Fox. Do we see him as a Brandon Jenkins-type?
By Sean Vice on 07.23.20 9:51am
I'm going with the Reinard Wilson-type.
Has that type of motor, and says Sacks is what he wants….

Im wondering if he doesn’t have a little Tank Carradine in him.
Long and potential for growth weight wise.

Welcome, young man!
Gonna win a lot of hearts and minds around here with that classic logo!

Welcome Mr Turner!
Nice to see the staff pull what appears to be the top remaining guy on their board at a position of need!

He has some legit offers- Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas, Baylor (Aranda loves him), etc

Love the add
Love the pipeline being laid into Louisiana. That’s a damn good talent pool to swim in.
Go Noles!

Love the metaphors.
They are a lava flow from your mind that burns our consciousness.

Should we be concerned about what will happen if lsu offers?
By 000111 on 07.23.20 11:31am
Doubt they will. They are in great shape at DE
If so, yes it’s always a concern. Same with Bama. Those two offers mean the most to many kids from the boot.
Turner mentioned he grew up a huge FSU fan though, so maybe that helps if FSU has to fight to hold on.

ugh 5th in the ACC...

Yikes
By fsunolez on 07.23.20 1:28pm
4th in the ACC is probably our ceiling, and that’s okay
Our coaching staff is not in a position to pull a national championship caliber class this recruiting season through no fault of their own.
By TheRenegade29 on 07.23.20 1:46pm
I'd say 3rd
Is quite possible. Miami traditionally loses all its recruits by mid-fall and I don’t think Louisville will end up ahead of us. UNC has been doing quite well and they may be too far ahead if they fend off poachers effectively down the stretch.

Need Miami (of FL) to collapse on the field to spur the #DecommitSZN. Hard to do if no football is being played.
Then again, if anyone can manage to do that…..it’s Miami.
Of Florida.

given all the cancellations of camps, visits etc is there a consensus among recruiting experts that this year's recruiting evaluations are less accurate than most years?
By 000111 on 07.23.20 2:03pm
Oh there's no doubt. It's a joke that they're still doing updated rankings, unless the kid wasn't previously ranked or new film gets discovered.

Gotta be able to sell those subscriptions some how
